| DATES STUFFED WITH PINE NUTS - "Dulcia Domestica" |
|
The date was the first exotic fruit imported into Rome. Pline wrote of it in his Natural History, L.XXII: "When they are fresh, dates are so delicious that the risk of dying of overeating is the only thing that will stop you eating them." |
INGREDIENTS: |
5 dates per person 3 soup spoons of pine nuts ½ soup spoon of honey |
DEVARATION: |
Grill the pine nuts in a pan (without oil). Stone the dates. Then, gently fill them with the cooled pine nuts. Using a non-stick pan, pour in the honey, add the dates and delicately mix over a low flame until they are completely coated. Serve warm.
How to make this recipe even more special? During Pline's era, the Romans added ground pepper to raise the flavour of this astonishing dessert. |
